Behind the scenes: Interning at FXC
At FXC Intelligence, an internship isn’t about photocopying, managing inboxes or ticking off administrative tasks — it’s about contributing and collaborating meaningfully.
Thanks to the content team, my three-month internship was filled with valuable training, constructive feedback and hands-on assignments (even working on my own research project). In this blog, I hope to take you through my journey, sharing key moments and insights along the way.
Onboarding and settling into the role
Starting a new internship is exciting, but it can still feel challenging to face an unknown environment. FXC eases first-day nerves with a structured onboarding process, from the HR team to the direct manager.
The HR team sent onboarding emails prior to the day, specifically outlining my first-day schedule. As a fresh graduate, this set expectations and reduced the stress before stepping into the office.
After meeting with HR generalists on the first day, I was given presentations by my manager on cross-border payments and FXC’s data products. The focus was on strategic insights rather than the technical aspects, with a special emphasis that it’s okay to not know everything! FXC prioritised an intern’s willingness to learn over industry expertise.
Learning from task, trust and training
Every day at the internship could be different. My day-to-day tasks could involve conducting research, creating data visualisations or writing a report; this depended on self-management. I was often assigned a project with a target date, but I was allowed to design the timeline myself. Among the tasks, one common thread is the trust given by the team members.
With that in mind, navigating unfamiliar tasks could still be overwhelming as an intern. However, FXC values feedback, particularly constructive criticism. With detailed comments from colleagues, I learnt both what I did right and wrong for the project. This helps me effectively grow during the internship.
Along with feedback, FXC also values practical training, from personal branding to search engine optimisation skills. While the sessions built on professional knowledge, they also promoted active learning behaviour.
Advancing career development
FXC not only strengthened my fundamental skills, but defined and redefined my career choices. The internship offered diverse tasks and skillsets, which exposed me to new perspectives for growth. At FXC, I gained clarity on my career direction.
FXC’s industry reputation also supported my career path. It’s not just about being connected on LinkedIn, but the company gave me valuable credentials for my future career. By publishing works under FXC, the experience improved my professional profile, making me more competitive in the industry.
Overall, an internship at FXC is a transformative stepping stone, whether you choose to stay at FXC or not. It’s an asset for your growth; your time spent here is never wasted.
My key takeaway from the internship at FXC: there’s always room for development, both professionally and personally. The internship opened my world to new skillsets and opportunities. FXC has prepared me for a full-time role, equipping me with the knowledge and confidence to take the next step in my career.
