Employee Spotlight
In this ongoing series, we'll be featuring interviews that highlight the diverse talents, experiences, and contributions of our employees.
This week, the spotlight is on a member of our Global Indices and Card team - Arinola Lawal.
Can you share a bit about your role and responsibilities at the company?
I am a Research Analyst on the Global Indices and Cards team. My main responsibilities involve organising the collection of data, performing quality assurance checks on data, analysing data for internal use, reports and other client deliverables, contributing to writing reports and performing ad-hoc research tasks.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Data Analysis?
I think I was attracted first by the role itself and then my own personal experience of the importance of remittances, being an education migrant and knowing many others like me. Since joining FXC Intelligence, I have even more appreciation for the work required to deliver the data that we focus on and how meaningful it is.
Can you share any skills or knowledge you've gained since joining the company?
A lot of informal collaborations happen in my role and I’ve been able to take that experience and use it to join up the dots on what different teams do and enrich my knowledge of the industry by extension. I have definitely improved with writing newsletter-facing content which is a slightly different skill set to what is required for client reports.
What aspects of your job do you find most challenging, and how do you overcome them?
I think managing my time when I am trying to develop my skills and contribute well to client work can be tricky. I’ve gotten better at using my time well when we’re wrapping up projects or carving out 1 hour of the day, a few days a week. It is definitely a muscle that strengthens with consistency.
What's your favourite part of your job?
I love being part of the end-to-end process of a project and not just contributing small pieces, although that is an important part of the role and is necessary. Seeing the final version of our work come together is quite nice, whatever the deliverable may be.
