Employee Spotlight
This week, we take a look at the day in the life of Data Quality Manager - Ben Symons.
Can you share a bit about your role and responsibilities at the company?
My role is Data Quality Manager, which revolves a lot around data analysis, performing and developing checks for the data to maintain and improve its high quality. In addition, I’m involved in visualising and highlighting trends and helping different teams across the company achieve various goals.
What inspired you to pursue a career in data analysis?
I’ve always enjoyed problem solving, applied logic and pulling concise, clear conclusions from larger data sets. So the work is a brilliant match with a lot of what I find really exciting and interesting; I have enjoyed this area in different industries and I’m still finding it a great area to work in.
Can you share any skills or knowledge you've gained since joining the company?
I think there is a lot of industry specific knowledge you really dig into and learn a lot about when you work in a specific industry, so a lot around that, as well as just continuing to sharpen skills around various analytic, coding and visualisation challenges. I have also learnt a lot about managing work and projects.
What aspects of your job do you find most challenging and how do you overcome them?
I think like many people in lots of areas, there is always the challenge of having lots of exciting and impactful projects and work to do but needing to juggle a lot of them at once – prioritising, switching between and tracking lots of tasks. The key has just been maintaining organisation and the tracking of tasks, always keeping a step ahead.
What's your favourite part of your job?
There are lots of aspects of the job I really enjoy, from problem solving to larger tasks and projects and being able to see the impact from them. But having to pick one, I would probably say it’s being able to work in a really good team. It’s having fantastic people to work with on a daily basis and a brilliant collaborative environment within our team specifically, as well as more broadly within the department, and being able to really work together in a great way.
