Employee Spotlight
This week, we take a look at the day in the life of Business Development Manager - Joseph Furman.
Can you share a bit about your role and responsibilities at the company?
I am the Business Development Manager here at FXC; I am responsible for creating new relationships and revenue opportunities for the company through partnership development. I am responsible for the full life cycle of new business, from origination of opportunities and scoping use cases through to closing for our partnerships. The work that I do leading the US, Canada and LatAm sets precedent for the rest of the team following. Partnership development is one facet, as I am also tasked with implementing successful procedures that will be replicated across the business.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Business Development?
I enjoy building relationships, regardless of where that may be and which industry it is in. It was an even better opportunity for me here, being in an industry that I hold experience in. I see a huge amount of growth trajectory for myself in the realm of business development, being able to leverage past experience while continuing to grow in my current role.
Can you share any skills or knowledge you've gained since joining the company?
I have had more experience dealing with and communicating with colleagues in executive positions. Compared to other companies' commercial segments, our aim is much higher. Rather than going bottom up, we move top down – networking initially with C-suites and execs. These conversations are much more in depth, and involve a deeper understanding of communication and relationship development.
What aspects of your job do you find most challenging, and how do you overcome them?
The most challenging part of the role is bringing together many moving parts to do one task in unison. We have segments of the company (tech, data, etc) that all play pivotal roles in our partnership process. Bringing everyone together to reach one collective goal can sometimes be difficult to compile. Nonetheless, it’s great to be in an environment where the only problem in bringing everyone together is because of how busy we are.
What's your favourite part of your job?
The autonomy of my role. I have complete control of the day to day and how these conversations are structured/performed. The way we tackle the process is mainly strategised around the particular input I have in owning conversations.
