Get to know the Technology Team at FXC: Part 3
In part 2 of this series, you will have read about what makes us special and the challenges we face. In part 3, the final part of the series, find out more about what we are looking for, how to impress us and more!
What are we looking for?
- Problem solvers, people who like to learn, who aren’t afraid to try new things, fail at them and share the learnings (then try again)
- Proactive, curious communicators who ask questions, flag difficulties, come up with solutions and talk about their successes
- Opinionated engineers who have a picture of what “good” looks like, who care about their work quality and outcomes (ideally, your “good” should be aligned with our “good”)
- People who think wider and deeper and can imagine the evolution of the code in the future, the performance under different circumstances, the security of it, the maintainability, the flexibility, the compromises and tradeoffs
How to impress us?
- Put some real effort into the take-home task (ideally 1-2 hours; what you didn’t implement can just be highlighted as a comment)
- Describe your thinking process when solving problems: what did you try, what did you consider, what did you learn, where did you go wrong
- Prepare for the interview:
- Have examples of your past work and outcomes
- Write down problems you encountered and solved
- Be ready to talk about your interactions with other team members and processes in engineering practice
- In the interview, use those prepared examples and be specific but try to keep your answers brief – if we need more, we’ll dive deeper
- Think about what “good” engineering is in your opinion, and be aware of the whole SDLC and all its stages
- Be prepared to tell us what you’d like to learn or improve
- Be prepared to share your expectations
- If you are nervous during the interview or struggle to find words or answers, be upfront about it. Tell us you would like to Google/AI something, tell us you need a moment and tell us if you are sure you know the answer, you just can’t think of it right now. Maybe we can work through your block together
What isn’t right for FXC?
- Exaggerated or misleading CVs – we value honesty and authenticity
- Fully AI-generated take-home tasks – we’re all for using AI as a tool and we do too, but we want to understand your thought process and approach to tasks
What questions should you ask us to get to know us better?
- What are the current key challenges?
- What experiments and innovation activities are in progress?
- What can you learn from us?
- How can you grow in our company and make the biggest impact?
